Yes. The minor in leadership studies is an academic program that not only contributes credits toward your graduation but also counts toward an official designation on your transcript that will be visible to employers and future academic institutions alike.

At least nine hours must be 3000- or 4000-level courses. Because the capstone class counts for 3 of those nine hours, the additional 6 upper-division hours (two 3-hour courses) come from elective courses.

Students from any major are eligible to add the minor in leadership studies. See your academic advisor or contact Dr. Ted Cockle to discuss how to add the minor to your degree plan.

Course offerings often fluctuate from semester to semester and year to year. Accordingly, students who are having a hard time finding a pre-approved section may propose an alternative course to count for an elective. Consideration of these courses requires the approval of the Director of Leadership Studies in order to be counted toward the minor. It is advised that students acquire approval before taking a course. Email Dr. Ted Cockle with any additional questions or to request approval for a class.

Although the best bet is to take electives on the pre-approved list, students may request courses related to leadership be considered nonetheless. Consideration of these courses requires the approval of the Director of Leadership Studies in order to be counted toward the minor. It is advised that students acquire approval before taking a course. Email Dr. Ted Cockle with any additional questions or to request approval for a class.

The leadership minor draws on professors from across campus, including tenured faculty, full-time lecturers, and even student life staff with the requisite credentials. Visit the faculty page to see the School of Education faculty who teach in the minor.
